The Department of Education and the Department of Citizen Security of the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras impel a new edition of the Road Education program, which each year imparts the Local Police of the municipality.
In particular, more than 1,500 schoolchildren from public schools in the town join this initiative in which theoretical and practical knowledge on road education is taught.
Councilor for Education, Sonia López, stressed that "through these fun days children learn basic knowledge and acquire habits that will improve their safety as pedestrians and future drivers."
The programming of this activity counts on the participation of teachers who guide the children, as well as agents of Local Police who instruct the little ones to have an appropriate behavior in the role of pedestrian and driver.
The figure of the driver is represented by children on bicycles who must respect all the rules they find in their path.
In this way, the route that they must do is composed of different traffic signs (stop, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings), which facilitates to the students the learning of this matter.
The program, which was launched at the end of April, continues during the month of May in the four schools of the municipality.
In addition, this year have also taught traffic safety to the children of the Municipal Nursery Network.
The little ones have done the practical part through a traffic circuit with all kinds of signals and for which the little ones have circulated in tricycles and other apparatuses adapted to their age.
The Councilor for Education has concluded by explaining that "it is important that children become aware of road safety regulations with the aim of preventing accidents, and raising awareness of the right habits of children."
