"This action has been very demanded by the neighbors of the municipality, since Puerto Lumbreras has a high number of farms that generate a high traffic of vehicles."
The Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia has awarded a grant of 30,000 euros to the City of Puerto Lumbreras for the reform and adaptation to the current regulations of the Center for Cleaning and Disinfection of Road Transport Vehicles in the livestock sector.
The councilman of Agriculture, Livestock, Water and Pedanias, José María Parra, explained that "this action has been much demanded by the neighbors of the municipality, since Puerto Lumbreras has a large number of livestock farms that generate a high traffic of vehicles by highway".
The town of Puerto Lumbreras is characterized by its high density of livestock, concentrates more than 450 farms of all species, including sheep, goats and pigs.
In addition, a weekly sheep and goat market is held and several fairs and equine competitions are held throughout the year.
It has registered about 130 vehicles of transport of live animals, giving place in the year 2016 to more than 2,000 displacements with discharge of animals.
The regional government, aware of the importance of the development of investments in this area, and the limitation of municipal resources to meet the expenses derived from the necessary investment, has considered it advisable to collaborate financially with the City Council to improve the Disinfection of livestock transport vehicles.
Parra stressed the need to improve this center as "vehicles dedicated to road transport in the livestock sector constitute an important link in livestock production and health, with the displacement of these vehicles assuming a risk in the dissemination and propagation of Infectious diseases of animals ".
Finally, the councilman of Livestock has explained that "from now the vehicles that carry out animal discharges and the transport of products of animal feed and animal by-products will not have to go to the neighboring municipalities for the cleaning and disinfection".
