The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, today signed a collaboration agreement with the company Ambulancias de Lorca to launch an innovative and free service that will allow pets when their owners have suffered a traffic accident and are injured Or disabled in your home.
With the signing of this agreement, a new service for the collection and reception of animals at risk in Puerto Lumbreras is put into operation.
Mª Ángeles Tunisia has emphasized that "with this pioneering solidarity initiative in Spain there is a response to a need that will surely have a good acceptance among citizens."
The service is provided in specific circumstances such as domestic animals of patients injured in traffic accidents "in itinere", sick patients and / or incapacitated in their home, who are in situation of urgent need, either by traffic accident, Hospitalization or incapacity that prevents the owner or possessor from taking over the animal and that may jeopardize the integrity of the animal, also providing veterinary care and attention to the animal when necessary.
The new service is called AMAR and is offered free of charge.
The volunteers of AMAR will carry out, after a car accident involving a pet, "the ethical collection" of the animal that is left in helplessness.
They can also intervene in case a person is in a disability situation for a while.
The service will be carried out for as long as necessary, until the families responsible for the care of the animal can return to take care of it.
In the case in which the owner of the animal dies and there is no family member who could take care of the animal, the protocol of adoption of the animal would begin.
The main objective is to protect the lives and the integrity of the animals of injured and injured families (and / or deceased), as well as to ensure the emotional well-being of the injured family, avoiding a psychic suffering, that can affect their physical state Also to the concern that your pet may be hit, misplaced or sacrificed.
Ambulancias de Lorca offers to pick up the animal in the place of the facts, with a suitable sanitary transport and adapted for the safety of the pets during the trip.

Awareness Campaign on Pet Care
In parallel, the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with the Local Police and animal protection associations, has launched an awareness campaign on the possession and care of domestic animals in the four public schools of the municipality.
