The University of Murcia organizes a course of archeology in the Castle of Nogalte (06/06/2017)

Students from different parts of the country and outside Spain will travel to Puerto Lumbreras to study firsthand the site of the Castle of Nogalte.

The University of Murcia, in collaboration with the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras and the company Intellectual Heritage, through the CEPOAT (Center for Studies of the Middle East and Late Antiquity), organizes an Archeology course at the Nogalte Castle site.

From 9 to 23 July, students from different parts of the country and outside Spain will travel to Puerto Lumbreras to study first hand a model of medieval castle, its structure and structure.

This morning, the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, the director of CEPOAT, Gonzalo Matilla Seiquer, and the director of Intellectual Heritage, Juan Gallardo, presented this training offer at a press conference.

It is a comprehensive training course focused on fundamental aspects such as stratigraphy, photogrammetry and topography.

The program is divided into 11 blocks: Introduction to Archeology, archaeological excavation techniques, field archaeological drawing, reservoir planimetry, archaeological remains record, ceramic materials, technical drawing of archaeological materials, computer log management Archaeological, applications to the archeology of the territory, restoration of deposits and presentation of results.

The first four blocks will be studied through theory and field practices in the morning.

The students will be divided into 5 groups of 5 people in which, through rotations, they will be assigned tasks in their archeological area of ​​group coordination, taking of quotas, making the diary, drawing field, taking photographs and making sheets of Stratigraphic Units, At the same time as the excavation of the deposit is made.

The following blocks will be dealt with theory and practice in the afternoon.

The students, divided into the same groups, must perform archeological laboratory tasks for a complete understanding of Archeology in all its facets.

Thus, they will make an inventory of the archaeological materials found in the excavation during the morning, the drawing of the most significant pieces found, the computerization of the data taken from the field, through databases for the journal, material registration, And photographic, as well as the vectorization of the field drawings through CAD programs for their integration into the general planimetry.

It should be noted that the course will be developed under the concept of an international course, so that the vehicular languages ​​will be English and Spanish, which will speak at all times bilingual archaeologists and coordinators, who will explain in both languages, so students Will enjoy the opportunity to learn and improve their Spanish and English in this bilingual course.
