Puerto Lumbreras will celebrate as each year an Institutional Act on July 7, in which awards will be given to recognize the work of outstanding lumbrerenses.
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, at the proposal of the mayor of the town, will grant the distinction of "Lumbrerense of the year" to the artist Sonia Navarro Peralta.
This recognition will be held next July 7, in the Institutional Act of Independence Day of Puerto Lumbreras.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, stressed that "Sonia Navarro has become a benchmark within the culture and art nationwide. She is one of our best ambassadors, as it always boasts of being Puerto Lumbreras ".
Sonia Navarro was born in Puerto Lumbreras in 1975 to a family of artists, including Teresa Navarro, Marcos Salvador Romera and Buenaventura Romera.
He moved to Granada to graduate in Fine Arts and later to Madrid where he completed a Master of Photography.
Throughout his career he has performed more than 20 individual exhibitions, more than 40 collective exhibitions, has made different workshops for institutions such as the University of Granada, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, he has participated in several editions of the ARCO Madrid International Contemporary Art Fair.
At the moment, she is embarked on a big project in Nave Oporto (Madrid).
It is a craft of old textile activity, which has been reconverted into nine artistic studies, being able to create not only a project of coexistence and work, but to generate a community effect, composed of members from different backgrounds.
Also, the works of Sonia Navarro are exhibited in a temporary headquarters of London of the gallery of murcian art T20, under the denomination T20 Satellite.
