110 boys and girls who celebrated their First Communion this year participated yesterday in the traditional procession of Corpus Christi, held in Puerto Lumbreras and in the hamlet of La Estación-Esparragal.
The procession in Puerto Lumbreras began at 20:00 and toured the old town and some of the main streets of the municipality, accompanied by the Municipal Music Band.
The children made stops during the tour in the different altars decorated for the occasion.
Similarly, children from the hamlet of La EstaciónEsparragal also attended the procession, which began at 12.00 hours in the Hermitage of the lumbrerense district.
Coinciding with the Corpus Christi Festival, the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Culture and Tourism, organized the second edition of the Contest of Altares and Balconies.
In particular, 6 altars and balconies were decorated for the occasion and they did not miss the Eucharistic reference.
The winners were the altars decorated by the Brotherhood of the Christ of the Faith, Isabel Perez and Concepción Martínez.
The winners will be presented with a framed photo of their altar or balcony, a handmade ceramic trophy and a diploma accrediting the prize.
It should be noted that the jury, composed of cultural associations of the municipality, took into account the artistic quality of the facilities and the maintenance of the traditional elements in the altar decoration at the time of its valuation.
The Councilor for Culture, María Victoria Jerez, thanked the interest and the effort made by all the participants of the contest by dressing the procession.
