The regional government has granted a grant of 30,000 euros to the City Council for the reform and adaptation to the current regulations of the Center for Cleaning and Disinfection.
The Autonomous Community, in collaboration with the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, is currently working on the improvement and reform of the Center for Cleaning and Disinfection of Road Transport Vehicles in the livestock sector.
The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, the Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock, Water and Pedanias, José Mª Parra, and councilman Eliseo Sánchez, supervised this morning the state of infrastructure.
The regional government, aware of the importance of the development of investments in this area and the limitation of municipal resources to meet the costs of investment, has granted a grant of 30,000 euros to the City Council for the reform and adaptation to the current regulations of the Center for Cleaning and Disinfection of Livestock Vehicles.
The mayor of the town has explained that "this action has been much demanded by the neighbors of the municipality, since Puerto Lumbreras has a large number of farms that generate a high traffic of vehicles by road."
The town of Puerto Lumbreras is characterized by its high cattle density, concentrates more than 450 livestock farms of all species, including sheep, goats and pigs.
In addition, a weekly sheep and goat market is held and several fairs and equine competitions are held throughout the year.
It has registered about 130 vehicles of transport of live animals, giving place in the year 2016 to more than 2,000 displacements with discharge of animals.
To conclude, Tunisia stressed that "from now on vehicles that carry out animal discharges and transport animal feed products and animal by-products will not have to travel to neighboring municipalities for cleaning and disinfection."
It is worth mentioning that vehicles dedicated to road transport in the livestock sector constitute an important link in livestock production and sanitation, with the displacement of these vehicles assuming a risk in the spread and spread of infectious diseases of animals.
