During the last days, municipal school children and people with disabilities are occupying the seats of the Plenary Hall of Puerto Lumbreras, where political representatives usually meet to discuss issues of local interest.
Last Friday the users of the Association Apandis and the Integral Center for People with Disabilities of Puerto Lumbreras (CIPED) occupied the position of the councilors in the Municipal Plenary to express their ideas and proposals.
This morning, it was the tuno of the schoolchildren, who participated in a plenary session chaired by the general director of Attention to Diversity and Educational Quality, Mª de la Esperanza Moreno, in which the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras was also present.
This initiative, organized by the Department of Education, aims to give voice and more participation to these groups, coinciding with the celebration of the International Day of People with Disabilities (December 3) and Constitution Day (December 6).
Thus, during 3 days, more than 200 students of 6th grade of Primary Education and a score of people with disabilities have participated in these Plenary Sessions, with which it is intended to bring the local administration closer and listen to the requests of children and users of CIPED and Apandis.
The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Túnez, has welcomed the participants in her office and has offered some touches on the importance of the Constitution and the functioning of the City Council.
"We want children and young people to learn to value the importance of the democratic system, to learn to take responsibility for democratic coexistence and to take into account dialogue as a prior step in decision-making, and with this initiative participants discover the structure and functioning of the City Council ", explained the mayor.
During the development of the activity, the students have grouped into different municipal groups divided by colors and, through a spokesperson, they have issued the proposals that have been put to the vote.
At the end of the Plenary, a question and answer session has been opened.
