The loss to the municipal coffers is so important, more than 60% of the annual budget of the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, which leaves in the air such emblematic projects as the School of Hospitality, in the old Parador de Turismo, or the adaptation of the Avenida Murcia Region and its surroundings.
The Medina Nogalte Tourist Consortium, which is 60% dependent on the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, began the reimbursement of the subsidies in September 2016, with an entrance to the autonomous community of 1,582,238 euros.
With this amount, after several modifications in the execution period and in the object of the subsidy, it was foreseen the adaptation of the Murcia Region Avenue and its surroundings.
The investment would have supposed a great push to the commercial fabric of the locality, very deteriorated in the last years, with an integral reform of the zone center of the municipality.
The rest of the money returned to the coffers of the autonomous community, 2,000,000 euros entered in June of this year were intended for the recovery of the building of the former Parador de Turismo de Puerto Lumbreras.
After the closure of this emblematic establishment back in 2013, and having obtained the municipal council the cession of use for 25 years, came at the time of investing in its future.

Another emblematic project for the town is the commonly known School of Hospitality, the "Center for Innovation, Transfer of Knowledge and Technology and Specialization in Nutrition, Restoration and Tourism Promotion of Gastronomic Companies", has lost all economic support from the autonomous community after not executing the subsidy within the established term.
According to Decree n ° 214/2014, of October 30, the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras was granted a subsidy of € 4,365,000 for the School of Hospitality, with only 15 months for its execution.
Seven months later, without the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras had begun the procedures for contracting or execution of the works, the regional government modified the grant to extend the deadline for execution until December 2017, but not before reducing it by 1,315,000 €,
When there are ten days to complete the maximum period of use and justification of the subsidy, the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras still has not initiated any type of contract for the start of this work, which means de facto the loss of the rest of the available, another € 3,050,000.
