The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Túnez, and the general director of Highways, José Antonio Fernández Lladó, supervised this morning the improvement works carried out on the La Estación highway RM-D26.
In particular, actions have been implemented to improve road safety in the area with the installation of protection barriers on the RM-D26 highway, which connects the hamlet of La Estación de Puerto Lumbreras with the RM-620 (Pulpí - highway RM- eleven).
The mayor of the town explained during the visit to the works that "its purpose is to improve road safety for citizens in these important communication routes for the municipality, which, in global terms, has an average traffic intensity of 2,540 vehicles at day, of which 219 are heavy. "
These works have been started in a stretch of road in which there is a ditch of large dimensions that, in episodes of heavy rains, filled with water and made it difficult to identify the shoulder and sides of the road.
The objective of the works has been to improve visibility and road safety with the installation of protection barriers in the gutter and the corresponding abatements in the existing accesses.
In this way, the action consisted in the installation of 716 linear meters of double-wave galvanized safety barrier and 12 linear meters of special metallic protection system for motorists in the accesses to a roundabout.
Mª Ángeles Tunisia stressed that "the road infrastructure has been adapted to the circulation of motorcycles and the protection of drivers has been increased through the installation of adequate barriers." After an exhaustive analysis of the points where this reinforcement was most necessary, developed the actions in an area where a greater risk of accident has been detected, considering the existence of dangerous curves, the speed or inclination of the grade ".
Finally the mayor thanked the general director of the investment made by the Ministry of the Presidency and Development, which has an amount of 35,952 euros.
