During the meeting they analyzed the implementation of new projects in the field of irrigation modernization and announced an investment of more than 200,000 euros in the installation of photovoltaic panels in the reclaimed water treatment plant (WWTP) of Puerto Lumbreras.
The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Maria Angeles Tunisia, and the president of the community of Irrigators of the municipality, Antonio Martinez, met today with the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Francisco Jódar, to address issues of local interest related with the primary sector.
The meeting, which was held at the Casa de los Duendes Cultural Center, was also attended by the general director of Agrarian Funds and Rural Development, Carmen María Sandoval, the general director of Water, Miguel Ángel del Amor, representatives of the Community of Irrigators of Puerto Lumbreras and members of the Government team of the municipality of Lumbrerense.
Then, they have made a visit to the irrigation facilities that the Irrigation Community has in the Cañada de Alba.
During the work meeting, different projects on livestock and agriculture have been addressed.
In particular, the start-up of a new irrigation modernization project that the Irrigation Community intends to carry out in the El Descanso area has been analyzed.
The objective of this action is to modernize all the plots included within the irrigable perimeter of the Irrigation Community.
In the same way, they have also studied the construction projects of reservoirs of the Community of Irrigators to increase the water storage capacity, as well as the next subsidy lines of the Autonomous Community in this matter.
On the other hand, Jódar has announced that the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries will invest 210,000 euros this year in the installation of photovoltaic panels in the reclaimed water treatment plant (WWTP) of Puerto Lumbreras in order to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
Francisco Jódar stressed that "this action is part of the commitment of the Regional Government to the environment and sustainability" and will be carried out through the Entity of Sanitation and Purification (ESAMUR).
The counselor stressed that "with the installation of photovoltaic panels, it is expected to replace the electric power and it is estimated that the reduction in the current energy consumption of the plant will be 25 percent."
Also, the mayor of the town has expressed the need for mediation of the Community to expedite the arrival of water to Puerto Lumbreras through the transfer of Negratín.
Tunisia explained that "the transfer is a great opportunity for the development of the municipality and the creation of employment, since with the transfer of a hm3 will generate new opportunities in the agricultural and livestock sector, the main economic engine of the municipality."
To conclude, Mª Ángeles Tunisia has reiterated that "we strongly support the Irrigation Community and appreciate all the effort they are making, for decades, in collaboration with the City Council, to increase the allocation of irrigation water in the municipality and advance in the modernization of irrigation We have to work together and do everything possible to not lose a single drop of water. "
