25 of Roma families at risk of social exclusion from Puerto Lumbreras benefit from the free playroom service offered by the town council.
The objective pursued with this service is to support gypsy students in school reinforcement tasks and strengthen the knowledge acquired in their educational centers.
In addition, recreational activities are also developed that favor personal relationships and contribute to the motivation and involvement of the child with daily class attendance, thus avoiding school absenteeism.
Specifically, 35 children already participate in this initiative aimed at children between 3 and 12 years old.
The playroom service is held in the facilities of the old Sacred Heart school from Monday to Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The activity is framed within the Project of Integral Attention to the ComunidadGitana, developed by the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with the Family and Equality of Opportunities Council of the Autonomous Community, through the Murciano Institute of Social Action.
The project aims, at a general level, to continue contributing to the improvement of the social situation of the Roma community, through a series of concrete actions that promote their social integration, taking into account at all times, the participation of the Roma community in the programming and development of the actions.
