The Holy Week of Puerto Lumbreras will be this year with new features such as the installation of tiles on the Via Crucis or the inauguration of the new square of the Brotherhoods.
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Culture and Tourism, in collaboration with the Town Council of Puerto Lumbreras, has decided to install some tiles that will mark the Stations of the Cross, as one of the main novelties for this Holy Week 2018
The Penitential Way of the Cross, which takes place every year with the Brotherhood of the Christ of the Faith and Our Father Jesus Nazareno, will feature some tiles that will illustrate the 15 stations of this penitential act.
These pieces have been created by Martín Lario and will have verses dedicated to each one of the stations, elaborated by the ex-president of the Ancient and Venerable Brotherhood of the Blessed Virgin of the Dolores, Juan Vicente Navarro Valverde.
These tiles will be placed along the route of the procession, which will begin at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and will cover the main streets of the historic center.
In this way, the itinerary of the procession will cross San Francisco Street, Juan Carillo, Sierpe, Star, La Paz, Barranco, Francisco Tirado, Juan García Mellado and will end in the Parochial Church.
It should be noted that this Via Crucis is organized by the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Likewise, Holy Week in Puerto Lumbreras will add a new procession this year to those who traditionally walk the streets of the city.
The Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of the Faith and Holy Mary of Mercy has organized its first Via Crucis in the old town.
Another novelty is that the Francisco Tirado street plaza will be remodeled and it will be given the name of the Cofradías square, in honor of the three that exist in the municipality.
In this way, will be installed the titular images of the Ancient and Venerable Brotherhood of the Most Holy Virgin of Sorrows, Royal and Illustrious Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of the Faith and Most Holy Mary of Mercy, and Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Nazarene.
In the same way, the City Council has begun work on improvement and refurbishment in the House-Museum of the Brotherhoods, for its preparation for the Holy Week.
So, this week have begun the work of painting and repair of defects.
The councilor for Culture and Tourism, Mª Victoria Jerez, has indicated that "we continue working so that the Holy Week of Puerto Lumbreras continues to grow and be declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest".
Finally, the councilwoman has announced that "a motion will be presented at the next Municipal Plenary so that the name of each one of the Brotherhoods is granted to three streets of the town".
