The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Education, the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Social Policy, is developing a campaign to raise awareness against school dropout and absenteeism.
Specifically, the campaign is aimed at students of Primary and Secondary Education of all schools in the municipality.
The campaign, funded by the Autonomous Community, includes actions aimed at preventing, monitoring and controlling absenteeism and school dropout.
Among the actions carried out, the awareness-raising talks with exposition of real cases in the four public schools and in the IES Rambla de Nogalte stand out.
In the talks the coordinator of the Municipal Program of School Absenteeism of Social Services participates, an agent of the Local Police and a psychologist specialized in the area.
The Councilor for Education, Sonia Lopez, stressed that "eliminate school absenteeism is everyone's task, the role played by families, they must support and motivate students to attend school every day."
Within this campaign, a community intervention program is carried out with students and families in a socio-educational disadvantage situation, thus complying with the 2012 Order of the Ministry of Education that regulates the Regional Program for Prevention, Follow-up and Control of School Absenteeism and Reduction of School Abandonment (PRAE Program).
Finally, the councilor stressed that "this campaign aims to continue to inform students of the negative effects of school absenteeism and educational and social resources available to children and families to combat this problem."
