The mayor stressed that "we want a society in which no person has to travel the path of inequality, and in which everyone has the same opportunities."
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has adhered to the awareness campaign "Starting from Zero", promoted by the Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG), with the aim of eliminating discrimination against the Roma people.
A Zero City is one where nobody leaves disadvantaged because everyone has the same opportunities, regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, nationality or religion.
The campaign includes the dissemination of an animated short film with the voice of the actor Antonio Resines, which tells the story of Samara, a young gypsy girl who starts her journey to "Ciudad Cero", the city of equality.
This is the first video that has started with negative visualizations (750,000, the number of Roma people living in Spain) and whose goal is to reach zero. A simile of the disadvantage that thousands of gypsies and gypsies have to overcome, every day, They have to overcome the discrimination and rejection that prevents them from having the same opportunities as the rest.
A short story "Partir de Cero", written by MÃ xim Huerta and illustrated by Carlos Salgado, which is part of this campaign, has also gone on sale.
With this campaign, the Fundación Secretariado Gitano also seeks the support of citizens, institutions, companies and organizations.
To do this, they have presented the Decalogue for a Zero City, a manifesto that everyone can join on their website to, among all, build a society in which nobody leaves at a disadvantage.
The mayor of the town, Maria Angeles Tunisia, stressed that "we want a society in which no person has to travel the path of inequality, and in which everyone has the same opportunities."
The campaign is funded by the program "For Solidarity, Other Social Interest Purposes" of the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, and the European Social Fund.
Finally, it should be noted that, currently, the City is developing a project for the care and integration of the Roma community, in collaboration with Fundación Secretariado Gitano, which includes a playroom service, training workshops for mothers and fathers, reading courses writing, as well as other actions aimed at improving employment.
