The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has published a new edition of the sports calendar, which includes all the sports activities that will take place throughout this year.
The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Túnez, attended the presentation ceremony that was held coinciding with the celebration of the promotion of the team Benjamín del CD Lumbreras to first regional category.
Tunisia stressed that "this calendar is proof of the great effort and commitment of associations, clubs and groups, which together with the Department of Physical Activity and Sports, each year schedule a greater number of activities and sports events to meet the demands of citizens "
This year, the sports calendar includes more than fifty activities related to the practice of different disciplines such as basketball, soccer, cycling, tennis, swimming, handball, volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics, silvestrism and athletics, among others.
The main novelty in sports programming 2018 is that the Tour of Spain will arrive in Puerto Lumbreras.
Thus, the seventh stage of the Vuelta, which will be held on Friday, August 31, will depart from Lumbrerense and continue in the direction of Vélez Rubio to finish at Pozo Alcón.
Tunisia has indicated that "although it has been more than 10 years since the Vuelta does not visit Puerto Lumbreras, this will be the third occasion in which we will be able to enjoy some of the most important sporting events in the country".
The mayor stressed "the great impact it will mean for the town and for the entire region in terms of promotion and economic activity for the number of fans and the logistics involved in the race."
The sports calendar includes the third Sports awards gala, which recognizes the work of athletes and clubs that have stood out in the last season.
This event, which is being organized for the third consecutive year, will be held on May 25.
During that month, the first International Cycling Tour of the Guadalentín Valley will also take place on May 26 and 27, as well as an open competition for the singing of jilguero and mixed regional beasts, the awarding of sports trophies at school age and the 12 hours of tennis in absolute category.
With the arrival of the month of June, the local league of tennis and the championship will take place 24 hours of futsal.
In July, the traditional Silybum-oriented night cruise will take place, 3x3 basketball tournaments and swimming courses will begin in the summer pools, which will also take place during the month of August.
In September the sports day of the CD Lumbreras and sports schools will start again.
In addition, the Ginés García cycling school trophy and the Custom Lumbreras motorcycle event will take place.
One more year, the sports event will be held "in shape pedaling" on October 12 and the urban mile the next day.
The school-age sport program will begin in November in the four public schools of the municipality.
That month a photographic gymkhana, hiking routes, Lumbreras Basketball Club days and the Lumbreras Sports Club will be held.
The year will end with the football memorial "Pascual Ortuño", "La Estación-Esparragal" cycle tour, indoor soccer tournament, La Estación-Esparragal popular race, tennis championship, petanque tournament, Old Star basketball game, climb to La Sima and the popular race of San Silvestre.
Finally, the mayor thanked the more than 40 associations that collaborate with the City of Puerto Lumbreras in the development of the calendar, which serves as an informative reference of sports activity for citizens.
