Puerto Lumbreras works in the final of the European project Daphne Spire against gender violence (26/10/2010)

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras works closely with cities in other European countries like Sweden, Greece and the United Kingdom in the last phase of the project ends next December and has been developed over two years in the locality.

Spire Daphne benefits in the field of awareness of gender violence to 220 local organizations and 880 individual beneficiaries in the four participating countries.

The municipality has organized various activities for the coming months among which is a competition in schools to design an awareness campaign on gender violence to be distributed in shops and public buildings in the locality.

The town of Puerto Lumbreras has designed the actions that take place in the final stretch of Daphne Spire project to raise awareness about domestic violence in rural areas.

Project coordinators, along with representatives from European Union countries such as Sweden, Greece and United Kingdom have participated in their final project which set in motion concrete actions to work against violence against women in rural areas.

The project is funded by the Daphne III Programme and has the support of the European Union

According to the Councillor for Equal Opportunities, Lina Gázquez, "the essence of this project is to increase the knowledge on gender violence in society. According to the research and analysis carried out throughout the year from now we are developing a series of training and development interventions to operate across the EU. "

Specifically, it has already submitted the Daphne web Spire, has started distributing informational materials, the implementation of training programs in the participating municipalities, and managing an external evaluation system to promote the project to a high standard quality.

Commitment to gender violence

During 2010 and through Daphne Spire project, the City has implemented various training activities and information to work against gender violence.

Initiatives addressed include a seminar on 'Gender Violence' in School Children in Puerto Lumbreras, plays on gender violence as well as working with various sectors of importance in the district and law enforcement, professional teachers, tissue associations, or health personnel.
