The City proposes to the Segura basin alternatives for the Ruta del Agua in Puerto Lumbreras (02/02/2011)

The municipality has submitted to the Segura basin (CHS) a report that focuses on the study of urban routes which make up the Ruta del Agua in Puerto Lumbreras.

The Water Route 50 will provide interest assets of canals, mills, ponds, fountains, cisterns, caves and waterholes, as well as agricultural terraces irrigated by flooding.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras request the cooperation of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS) to configure the Water Trail will consist of over 50 assets of interest related to the culture of water in the locality.

Thus, the session lumbrerense has submitted a report which focuses on the detailed study of urban routes which make up the Ruta del Agua in Puerto Lumbreras, so that the CHS work with the municipality in its implementation.

"Since the City Council request the cooperation of the Segura River Basin Authority to implement the new Water Route Puerto Lumbreras to show all visitors the traditional water infrastructure offered by our town," said Mayor of the town.

Sanchez has also stressed "the importance of the involvement required by the maintenance and recovery of water infrastructure in order to inform new generations the water management processes through history."

Thus, the project 'La Ruta del Agua' aims to enhance the value of different natural water courses, which means the recovery of the assets that comprise it, improving their environment and the adequacy of different routes so they can be enjoyed both by locals as by visitors to the municipality.

Also, according to a study by the Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets of the Region of Murcia in cooperation with the City, heritage resources that define the path of water are over 50, consisting of canals, mills, ponds, fountains , wells, caves and waterholes, as well as agricultural terraces irrigated by flooding.

City tour which includes the Water Route

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has made a detailed study with tours including the Water Road, and in which the municipality proposes the involvement of the Segura basin.

Thus, the urban tour of the Water Trail will have its inception in the spring of the Rambla de Nogalte which will be introduced to the route through information panels to provide an overview of the route.

The tour will come to the pipes of the city to understand the feedback system of groundwater, and subsequently reach the Plaza commemorating the flood of Puerto Lumbreras 1973.

Subsequently, the route will pass through the streets of El Molino, where visitors will encounter the 'Molino Jerez, which retains many characteristic features, and shown as interpretive center along the route.

Thus, the route will continue through the network of canals that leads to the mill of Uncle Antonio.

Trails will be created to unify the network of canals that lead to 'Los Arcos de la Acequia' good to be retrieved only for the Water Route.

Also, the path will end with trails along the promenade, the old raft of pipes and sinks located in the plaza Reina Sofía.

Also, the route will include two buildings of cultural interest such as cisterns and water tank Espartal Station.
