The municipality participates for the second year in the Sea International University, the University of Elders including scientific conferences and workshops for people over 50 years.
The University Conference on Science has been inaugurated by the Councillor for Education and Social Policy, Maria Angeles, and the program director, Antonio Guirao.

The town of Puerto Lumbreras hosts throughout the week the first University of Elders in the region organized by the University of Murcia and included in the 2011 academic offerings of the Universidad del Mar. The Councillor for Social Policy and Education, Maria Angeles Tunisia, together training program director, Antonio Guirao, opened the conference with the participation of fifty students of the municipality and other parts of the Region.
