The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the council's Mayor, has launched an information campaign to raise awareness on the prevention of risks of heat in the elderly population.
Specifically, it has produced an informative leaflet which provides tips to avoid heat stroke in people with higher risks.
In this sense, the Councillor for Social Policy and Older, Maria Angeles Tunisia, explained: "With this campaign we wanted to make aware of a very special way to our elders of the detrimental effect of heat and sun when the temperatures recorded extremes during the summer months. Therefore, the leaflets offer advice on how to act in the hours when temperatures reach their highest registers. "
Thus, under the slogan 'Protect from heat' the consistory, in collaboration with the Autonomous Community, has published more than 1,000 information leaflets distributed in public facilities for the elderly such as senior centers, center or gerontojardines day stays.
In addition, since the session is being distributed juices and bottled water for the talks are being given to older people in the locality.
Among the tips offered by this information campaign, highlights the importance of keeping hydrated with water or juice, put on sunscreen adapted to the area of ​​the body, age, eating lots of fruit and refreshing.
The campaign also provides tips for the home, such as closing windows and curtains on sun-exposed facades during the day, shower frequently or stay in the house cooler places.
On the street, is recommended to leave in hours of extreme heat, do not leave anyone in a car with the windows closed and avoid physical activity during the hours of most intense heat.
