The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Culture and Tourism in collaboration Count the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia, has launched a program of guided tours and free night at the Astronomical Observatory of Cabezo de la Jara is develop during every Wednesday and Saturday in July and August at around Cabezo la Jara.
Specifically, the Campaign 'Meet the Stars', offers guided tours, lectures and seminars outside and watching the different constellations through the Telescope Observatory Cabezo de la Jara.
According to the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Maribel Martinez, "the program allows you to bring the world of astronomy to the public and establishes itself as an alternative to summer activities taking place during every Wednesday and Saturday in July and August from 22.00 hours. "
The sessions are taught by astronomical members of the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia, and include an introductory talk on astronomy, which also include legends and trivia about the constellations.
In addition, tours include an awareness session with an explanation of the sky with the naked eye, ending with the observation of celestial objects through the most important telescope located at the top of the Astronomical Observatory.
New this year the council has included the campaign "Meet the Stars' in the new Program to Promote Rural Tourism that takes place during the summer months, and that also includes visits to the new Interpretation Centre and the new Nature Trail Astronomical.
The Astronomical Observatory Cabezo la Jara is situated 1246 meters above sea level and 7 km from the heart of Puerto Lumbreras.
Its facilities include more than 80 square meters and include a dome, an observation room, reflecting telescope MEADE LX 200 12 for a class of astronomy CCD cameras for video and photography and computer control.
