The Department of Security and Emergency with the council's Sustainable Development and European Programmes of the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras have created the Environmental Unit to protect the natural landscape of Cabezo de la Jara.
The unit, which also will cover other areas of the town green and natural, be composed of four members of the local police, leaving one permanently allocated to patrol the site Cabezo de la Jara.
Councillor for Sustainable Development, Salvador Martinez, explained that "this is a new initiative from the session which aims to promote environmental protection, and more specifically the natural landscape of the Jara Cabezo where they exist, Space Protection Area Birds (SPA) and Site of Community Importance (SCI).
Thus, among the main features of the new Environment Unit, highlights the supervision and monitoring for possible fly-tipping in the place of Cabezo de la Jara, also serving to reinforce the safety of all persons residing in the area.
Also, the new Environment Unit, will address the ongoing monitoring of protected areas and areas of community interest and landscape and control forest fires.
Finally, note that agents will be in constant coordination with forest officials as well as Civil Protection.
