The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has designed a Revitalization and Development Plan for the head of the Jara including more than 100 specific measures to promote the development, enhancement and environmental protection of the natural landscape considered a Site of Community Importance (SCI) .
With this plan, the aim is "to promote the tourism promotion and development of natural landscape with concrete measures to encourage turn environmental protection area," said the mayor of the municipality, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
In this sense, the development plan includes measures to promote tourism in the countryside and natural attractions are complemented by the Astronomical Observatory, the new Interpretation Centre of Nature, 14 walks and 3 new ecotours.
Measures to promote environmental protection include Servicol treatments, reforestation, conservation of natural areas, and greater control of natural heritage through a new security unit working environment to avoid discharges and other activities that damage the natural landscape.
In addition, the Development Plan and Revitalization of Cabezo Plan incorporates a Natural Resources Management and an environmental study to obtain a legal declaration of protected areas conservation of Cabezo la Jara.
Moreover, among the more than 100 actions planned features a plan for the promotion of environmental volunteering in the area, a plan to extend the holm, the creation of a network of water points to prevent forest fires, conservation of springs, ponds and natural water-holes, as well as extensions and improvements to the electrical grid to avoid collisions and electrocutions of raptors and avoid light pollution that could impact on flora and fauna.
Furthermore, the Plan incorporates environmental awareness campaign aimed at local people, creating classrooms for Environmental groups such as schoolchildren, the elderly and housewives as well as a training plan for environmental guidelines.
Remarkably, the natural landscape of Cabezo de la Jara is seen as a Site of Community Importance (SCI), where there also (SPA), Special Protection Area for Birds.
His landscapes are composed mainly of oaks and large-sized pine, rosemary, rock rose, and inhabit the different animal species such as the nearly extinct turtle dwells, owls and wild boar.
These natural landscapes, dominated by the peak of Cabezo de la Jara, of 1,246 meters, are characterized by a set of rolling hills intersected by ravines.
