Through this new body of citizen participation will be a continuous monitoring measures and initiatives implemented to promote sustainable development and respect for the environment in the municipality.
The City will implement a development plan that includes more than 100 measures for the enhancement and protection of the natural landscape of Cabezo de la Jara, viewed as a Site of Community Importance (SCI).

Councillor for Sustainable Development and European Projects, Salvador Martinez, presided at the meeting of the new Sustainable Development Sector Council was created in the municipality to "enhance and promote environmental actions for sustainable development in the town through new specific measures."
Specifically, the new Environment Sector Board is made up initially by citizens from various fields and sectors of the municipality as the council, the Confederation of Employers ASEPLU, the Chamber of Commerce of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras, and various representatives of the sectors related to environment and sustainable development.
The Council was established as the central management body, which channels citizens' participation in municipal affairs relating to environmental and sustainable development.
Among other functions, the council serves to control the impact of environmental strategies lumbrerense population, study the results of actions, and propose new measures to enhance environmental compliance and public awareness.
Thus, the new Sustainable Development Sector Council is concerned to discuss and propose ideas and actions in various areas such as clean energy, greenways, environmental assessment, promenades, greenways, and parks and gardens.
On the other hand, among other highlights of the new body to advise the Local Government on matters relating to the environment, and issue reports on this subject, as requested.
"In this way the new Sectoral Council is constituted as an advisory body, open and plural which increases the participation of lumbrerenses involved in environmental and sustainable development of Puerto Lumbreras," says Martinez.
At this first meeting was presented and Development Promotion Plan has designed the city of Puerto Lumbreras for Cabezo de la Jara, which includes more than 100 specific measures to promote the development, enhancement and environmental protection of the natural landscape considered Site of Community Importance (SCI).
