The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras will imminently launch an Action Plan for Sustainable Energy which aims to help reduce the consumption of non renewable.
Specifically, it is a pioneering initiative in the Region of Murcia, which is developed in collaboration with the Agency for Administration of the Region of Murcia (ARGEM), which is part of the Covenant of Mayors for the environment in which Puerto Lumbreras was the first municipality to join.
Thus, the Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, held a meeting with staff of the Covenant of Mayors for the Environment in Brussels to coordinate the implementation of the new Action Plan for Sustainable Energy in the town .
In this sense, Sanchez explained that "Puerto Lumbreras sustainable growth has become a basic objective of his government, and so we became the first municipality of Spain who accepted the challenge of the Covenant of Mayors. Through this new plan Sustainable Energy Action will coordinate the implementation of new initiatives at the local level to reduce nonrenewable energy consumption and thereby reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. "
Specifically, the Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy includes first a study that will analyze the energy consumption of buildings, utilities and transportation in the entire municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, and to subsequently draw up a list CO2 emissions.
After this first phase, taking into account the results, we will implement concrete measures to address a variety of areas like buildings and municipal facilities, residential buildings, municipal lighting, municipal fleet and public transport, private transport and production local heat and electricity.
Among the measures included in the new Action Plan for Sustainable Energy, stressed the implementation of systems that use renewable and clean energy in municipal facilities and equipment, rationalization of the use of machinery and optimize energy consumption for lighting the public.
Also, replace incandescent filament bulbs for fluorescent lamps, traffic lights will be installed LED technology, and will be renewed exterior lighting equipment.
Also planned is the publication of a guide Energy Efficiency Hall workers, and will implement educational and awareness sessions in local schools.
On the other hand, is also planned to incorporate renewable energy in urban furniture, creating community systems of cooling and heating in homes, and the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on roofs of all public buildings.
In the transport sector, the City develops Sustainable Mobility Plans, including campaigns to promote cycling and sustainable mobility.
Finally, Sanchez explained that this new Plan of Action "continue to work to fulfill the commitments made by the European Union to reduce by 20% reduction in greenhouse gases, saving 20% ​​of energy consumption through increased energy efficiency and cover 10% of transportation needs through biofuels and promote renewable energy up to 20%. "
The town of Puerto Lumbreras is now developing the Strategic Plan 2008-2012 Ecopuerto that includes more than 150 concrete measures to enhance the environment.
Following its accession to the Covenant of Mayors launched another Local Action Plan will be supplemented with new measures in the field of sustainable energy.
