The doctoral thesis entitled 'The influence of arsenic in soils in semiarid environments mining', held at the University of Murcia, Salvador Martinez Lopez, Councillor for Sustainable Development and European Programmes in the city of Puerto Lumbreras, has been awarded the Prix Gómez-Pardo2011 Foundation, specializing in Earth Sciences, Mining, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering.

The thesis addresses the problem of arsenic in the environment and human health, has been led by Dr. Carmen Pérez Sirvent and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, researchers at the University of Murcia,

The award is organized by the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain at the national level.

The delivery of the prize to the researcher Salvador Martinez Lopez was held at the opening ceremony of the academic year 2011 - 2012 in the Ministry of Education.
