The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Culture and Tourism, has organized a lecture-presentation of the book "The Presidents and Diplomacy. I slept with Suarez and got up with Zapatero" written by the diplomat and former ambassador Chencho Arias .
The meeting, which took place in the cultural space Casa del Cura, has attended the Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sanchez.
In this sense, the book is a revealing journey through Spanish international politics of the past thirty years, from the hand of Inocencio Arias, the only diplomat who has worked closely with the five presidents of democracy in Spain.
So, somewhere between memory and historical reenactment, this famous diplomat recounts without mincing words, and with his usual wit and humor, the rights and wrongs of each president, their strengths and weaknesses, and some international stories.
The book also how Adolfo Suarez 'sold' to the world the Spanish transition, the steps that had to give Calvo-Sotelo for critical country's entry into NATO while his party was breaking up, or why was held in Madrid , during the government of Felipe González, the peace conference between Israelis and Palestinians century's most important, are some of the issues addressed in this book.
In addition, answers to questions as interesting as what was behind the controversial photo of Jose Maria Aznar in the Azores with Blair and Bush, and what 'sins' committed Zapatero with the U.S.?
Or is Spain's most important in the world now than it was ten or twenty years?
Notably Chencho Arias holds a degree in Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and entered the diplomatic service in 1967.
Since then he has held positions in various embassies (Bolivia, Algeria and Portugal) has been spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Latin American Affairs, Ambassador of Spain to the UN and Consul General of Spain in Los Angeles (last destination before retiring in 2010).
