The Astronomical Observatory in Puerto Lumbreras has received during the summer months over 2000 views.
These visits are being made since the beginning of summer in the privileged enclave of Cabezo de la Jara and extend opening doors until next October 1, the date has had to expand due to the great demand for these visits have had.
The Councillor for Tourism, Maribel Martinez, stressed that "this promotional and informational campaign, launched weeks ago, is offering visitors to Puerto Lumbreras and surrounding municipalities, the possibility of this iconic and beautiful scenery such as the Cabezo Jara, highlighting the important work being carried out these days in the Astronomical Observatory, offering all visitors a spectacular journey through the stars with exceptional viewing conditions. "
The Observatory, situated at 1246 meters altitude and 7 kilometers from the Puerto Lumbreras, is a unique opportunity to observe and enjoy the sky show and for knowledge of astronomy, being itself a great educational forum for students and visitors of any kind.
The content of the tour, two hours long, is guided by members of the Astronomical Association of Murcia and consists of an introductory lecture basics of astronomy, legends and stories of the constellations and explanation of a simple summer sky view.
Notably, the Observatory, built by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment by the European Project PRODER, is a building of 80 square meters with a dome, an observation room, reflector telescope MEADE LX 200 12, a classroom CCD cameras for astronomy photography and video and computer control.
Finally, the Councillor for Tourism, Maribel Martinez, also stressed that "this Observatory is a further step in the development and diversification of supply in the area Cabezo de la Jara, which offers the possibility of accommodation at the lodge" .
