The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, through Social Services has allocated in 2012 a total of 7,308 kilos of food staples to the poorest families in the municipality.
This afternoon, Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, accompanied by the Councillor for Social Policy, Maria Angeles Tunisia, explained that "since the session will be launched new campaigns to collect food during 2013 in collaboration with associations and groups local to continue helping those most in need. "
Thus, in 2012 the City of Puerto Lumbreras has allocated staples about a hundred poor families, benefiting more than 400 citizens in difficulty.
To do this, the Social Services made a preliminary report on the situation of the applicants of this type of aid is intended for the poorest families or at risk of social exclusion, such as households with children or elderly dependents, minorities ethnic, people unable to work, children in distress, passersby or seniors with the lowest pensions.
In this sense, Sanchez explained that "from the Social Services we take special care in monitoring the distribution process for all food arriving in perfect condition and at the right time, without administrative procedures lengthen the suffering difficult situation some families in this time of crisis. "
Thus, among the staple foods that are covered with this type of aid is rice, pasta, pulses, oil, canned food, milk, juice and infant cereal, then milk and baby food, among others.
Similarly, he explained that "in addition to staple foods, in 2012 families have also received other support from Social Services to meet other basic needs related to housing, health and access to specific programs working on support for social inclusion ".
In addition, the Mayor has said that "since the council are working on new and solidarity campaigns to collect food during 2013 to continue ensuring the basic needs of those most in need."
To do this, the session will continue launching campaigns to collect food in schools in the municipality, in collaboration with Caritas campaigns as well as with groups and associations interested in promoting solidarity campaigns to help the disadvantaged.
Also, the council received quarterly food through the Red Cross, which works in the Food Aid Plan of the Region of Murcia to make available to the neediest staples.
In conclusion, Sanchez explained that "in these difficult economic times we must be closer to the population weaker and more difficult to secure and the needs of families who for various reasons are in a disadvantaged position."
