The Civil Guard in cooperation with the local police in Puerto Lumbreras (Murcia), in the framework of the operation called "PORT RUBIO" have dismantled a criminal group dedicated to the cultivation and trafficking of marijuana, which has resulted in the arrest of 5 people in the town of Puerto Lumbreras.
They have seized more than 14,000 marijuana plants, whose net weight is around 3 tons, making it the largest seizure of marijuana in Spain so far.
An estate of over 5,000 square meters in the town of Esparragal housed four large greenhouses used for growing different varieties of marijuana plants, a dryer to obtain buds and diverse machinery and instrumentation for drug treatment.
The farm had raised suspicions because it is a large rural area equipped with advanced systems of cultivation, which pretended to be one of the usual fruit and vegetable farms in the area.
The huge underground plantation was perfectly camouflaged, hidden in greenhouses and farm sheds.
The 5 responsible for the farm, now in custody, were real experts in intensive cultivation and genetic manipulation of cannabis.
They had various machinery and instruments that made the estate in a clandestine laboratory with a huge production capacity.
They had obtained genetic modifications to make more powerful narcotic effect and improve growing conditions in the time of flowering and production costs.
Detained and cash seized
The detainees, 2 and 3 Spanish Moroccan roles were well distributed within the organization: a manager of the farm, overseers, caregivers, called "gardeners" ... Only one of them had a criminal record.
A theft in mid-August exploitation put the agents on the trail of the plantation, so also were arrested in parallel the four authors of the theft, all habitual offenders in the area.
In the place were recorded around fourteen thousand marijuana plants, whose net weight is around 3 tons.
In addition, several vehicles have been seized, fertilizer products of top quality and high cost, electrical systems, generators, alarm systems, weather stations and other elements that endow the laboratory conditions of humidity and temperature optimum for growing intensive within this drug, with high output power.
The detainees, effects seized and proceedings have been brought before the Court of Instruction No. 1 Lorca (Murcia), which has exercised the judicial management of the operation and has decreed the provisional imprisonment of five managers of the estate.
The operation is still open, not ruling out further arrests of people related to the matter under investigation, although it is considered that both the criminal group as the laboratory production of marijuana have been completely disarticulated.
