The Mayor met with the Director General of Educational Quality, Innovation and Attention to Diversity to discuss the implementation of bilingual education in schools in the municipality.
The meeting was also attended by the directors of the schools in the municipality and the Councillor for Education, Maribel Martinez.
"Since the City Council are committed to provide quality education and to raise the possibility of the township schools to adhere to the program of bilingualism, as English proficiency is a must-have for students," said the Mayor.
The Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, M ª Ángeles Tunisia, and CEO of Education Quality, Innovation and Attention to Diversity, Begoña Iniesta, have maintained a working meeting in which the directors of the schools in the county were also present and the Councillor for Education, to address the implementation of the bilingual education program in educational public schools in Puerto Lumbreras.
Specifically, the general director of Educational Quality at the meeting explained the procedure to be followed to implement the program and convert bilingual education centers and also highlighted the advantages students receive their lessons in two languages -Spanish and English.
Thus, the objectives of the program are to improve bilingual learning and acquiring skills in listening comprehension of English;
develop content in formal, informal and non-formal activities promoting linguistic communication;
and expand communication skills in different languages ​​and forms of expression of students.
Meanwhile, the mayor of the municipality, explained that "the City Council are committed to provide quality education and raise the possibility for schools in the municipality to adhere to the program of bilingualism, as we believe that English proficiency is an essential for students to have more opportunities for personal and professional development "tool.
Thus, through the "+ Languages" initiative proposed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities, is to universalize bilingual education in public schools in the region.
This strategy has the novelty that will be the schools themselves, with the consent of the families, who will choose the number of courses that students take foreign language.
This allows flexibly build the different needs of students, by having different educational responses.
