Students of architecture in Spain which have sought solutions to disused industrial spaces through a weekly workshop that were held in Puerto Lumbreras.
The Catholic University of Murcia, through their degrees in Architecture and Building Engineering UCAM, held its fourth edition of Architectural Intervention Strategies Workshop in Puerto Lumbreras.
A total of 25 students and 7 teachers from the field of architecture, from different parts of Spain and Murcia, Cartagena, Alicante, Valencia and Sevilla have participated in this initiative which closed in Puerto Lumbreras with the exhibition of the works.
This is an innovative initiative that allows students to confront real problems, in this case, the utility plating can give disused industrial spaces that have been absorbed by the urban fabric, located on the road between Molina Segura Murcia.
The workshop has the support of the City of Murcia, Molina de Segura and Puerto Lumbreras.
Participants have taken as reference cases transformation of industrial areas like Park Duisburg Nord in the IBA Emscher Park in Germany, Coin Street in London, Ile de Nantes in France, Borneo Sporenburg Amsterdam Masterplan and Area Mine in Barcelona.
Have subsequently analyzed the Molina de Segura-Murcia industrial hub and have submitted their proposals for intervention to recover the space for the city, retaining the existing and transforming it into a mixed-use area.
The aim of this workshop, which this year has the novelty with the participation of eight students and two professors from the University of Oran (Algeria), is to transmit to society the need to leverage existing resources, implement recycling culture urbanism and reuse of buildings and adapting them to the needs of the city demand.
