The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras this morning attended a meeting at the headquarters of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces in Madrid, which has released the results of this national project.
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras is part of 'NUPHYCO' national program that evaluates the nutritional, physical, emotional, cognitive and social status of the elderly in the municipality.
Thus, the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Maria Angeles Tunisia, this morning attended a meeting at the headquarters of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) in Madrid, which has released the results of this national project.
Specifically, for several months we have conducted a study in the city in order to know the quality of life related to health and emotional cognitive nutritional and functional status of the population over 70 years as well as the adequacy of healthy living resources of the town.
To this end, there have been telephone surveys for relevant and valid information on lumbrerense aging population.
Thus, the City of Puerto Lumbreras has earned a customized report of the current situation of the population in the town, which facilitates the implementation of new, more specific and appropriate for the elderly of the town policies.
Thus, one of the most important conclusions of this project at national level is the need to increase in municipalities resources for the exercise of the elderly.
Maria Angeles Tunisia, explained that "in the case of Puerto Lumbreras, the findings suggest that we remain committed to promoting physical exercise and healthy eating habits among older people."
Moreover, he added that "Puerto Lumbreras has a wide range of services and programs designed especially for our seniors and we will continue working on this line to offer more choices for leisure, culture and entertainment to our elders, while we increase social participation through major associations.
In this sense, the mayor stressed that "the council aims to continue improving and adapting its services to the needs of older people so they can enjoy a good quality of life and participate in society fully and actively ".
Finally, the Mayor congratulated the authors and participants of the study for the great work they have done on this project, "which will lay the groundwork for new municipal programs for health promotion in older people."
He also thanked their collaboration to 226 people over Puerto Lumbreras that have been surveyed.
Notably, in addition to Puerto Lumbreras, seven cities involved in this project (Valladolid, Santander, Leganés, Las Rozas, Tudela de Duero, Malaga, San Sebastian de los Reyes and Villanueva de la Cañada) and institutions and social organizations and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), the Spanish Federation of Nutrition (FEN), the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (IMSERSO), the Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SEGG) and the University Alfonso X El Sabio.
