The Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sanchez and Councilman of Agriculture and Water, José María Parra met this morning with the new president of the Community of Irrigators of Puerto Lumbreras, Antonio Martinez and several members of the board.
During this meeting has discussed the worrying situation of water deficit in the municipality and the implementation of many infrastructure projects for the modernization of irrigation and improved water supply in Puerto Lumbreras.
During the meeting, Sanchez explained the status of the work of the Network of rainwater drainage being carried out in the area of 'The Coloraos', the Castle Hill area and the Place of 'Peppers', by conducting storm sewers and sanitation in order to channel water from the rain so it does not flow through the town streets.
These works have a global budget in excess of 910,000 Euros
Sanchez explained that "the importance of these actions lies in the use of rainwater, as these waters will be transferred to the Commonwealth of Puerto Lumbreras Irrigation for using it for irrigation."
On the other hand, this meeting has agreed the implementation of the Water Board, which will establish a permanent forum with the participation of different socioeconomic sectors in the municipality in local affairs relating to the search for solutions to problems caused by the scarcity of water resources in Puerto Lumbreras.
