The system emits less CO2 emissions into the atmosphere producing less chemical residue on fruit and thus promoting sustainable agricultural practice
The Rural Development Department of the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, has launched the fourth consecutive year the campaign against fruit fly in table grapes with the participation, as previous editions, more than a hundred farmers and agricultural enterprises in the municipality.
"The City free delivery and a compact bait insecticide for each flycatcher which will install the farmers along the lines of technical staff to the Department of Rural Development.
We also offer free advice to activate the attractive fruit fly traps and use them appropriately, "said Councilman Rural Development, José María Parra.
The aim Agricultural Campaign is to reduce the use of insecticides against fruit flies, reflecting in a lower cost of labor for the farmer and lower emissions of CO2 to the atmosphere.
In addition, this system favors reduced exposure of farmers to insecticides, while less chemical waste generated in the fruit that will later be consumed by the population.
According to Parra, "is very important that farmers will be supported with this type of pest.
From City Hall to support farmers through advice and free distribution of baits and insecticides, but also work with the environment, since its use reduces pollution by reducing chemical treatments. "
Last year the City distributed over 5,000 baits and 5,000 capsules of insecticide, as well as 250 traps M3 for individual trees, resulting in a significant reduction of chemical treatments on farms.
The next July will start the season in citrus, and during August the olive season.
The campaign also includes the Strategic Plan Ecopuerto Puerto Lumbreras has developed with the aim of providing a more sustainable development, protecting the environment to grow and reduce the impacts that cause climate change on the health of citizens.
