The municipality has distributed food to more than 50 families during the first half of 2009.
With this new provision, the Council aims to double aid from last year.
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through Social Services, distributed 5,500 kilos of nonperishable food to the poorest families.
The new supply, which comes from the collaboration with Red Cross Region of Murcia, the session will serve to expand the reserves of food intended to meet the needs of the population affected by economic instability.
"Right now we are closer to the population weaker and more difficulties and ensure the needs of families for various reasons are in a disadvantaged position.
With this new food reserve food supply will double from last year to ensure this basic need for families who need it, "said the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
Distribution is conducted through the Social Services of Puerto Lumbreras, who will make a preliminary report on the status of applicants for aid.
The beneficiaries will be the most disadvantaged families or at risk of social exclusion are family groups with children or elderly dependents, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities to work, children deprived of parental care, homeless or elderly beneficiaries of pensions low.
In this regard, Sanchez added that "from the Social Services will focus on monitoring the distribution process to reach all the food in perfect condition and at the right time, without administrative procedures lengthen the situation of difficulty experienced by some families in these times of crisis. "
In 2008, Puerto Lumbreras distributed more than 5,000 kilos of food, and it is expected that new reserves the session extended aid to reach double figures.
The Mayor also pointed out that "when the reserves have become scarce, we have promoted campaigns to collect food to the citizens to ensure food to those most in need."
Foods that are to be distributed include dairy products like cheese, milk, custard and smoothies, fruit juice, cereal products such as pasta, biscuits and breakfast cereals, as well as rice, sugar and food for the child population, as cereal foods and milk below.
