The Segura basin (CHS) has completed the works to collect rainwater from Puerto Lumbreras, after undertaking a three-mile drive west of town, which binds to another in this area built above.
The president of the CHS, José Salvador Fuentes Zorita, and Mayor lumbrense, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, today visited the pipelines built in the town and held a meeting with irrigators in the area attending a dinner given by them.
The work, which had a budget of 400,000 euros, is driving 500 mm in diameter, having a total length of 3,002 meters, which are divided into a main branch of 2,877 meters and a secondary branch of 125 meters.
The main branch path runs parallel to the regional road D-19, facilitating the arrival of driving to the dam to regulate irrigators.
It also crosses the Rambla de Vilard, which may be used if necessary for maintenance of the raft and as an overflow to prevent flooding.
We must remember that, earlier, had already CHS works of rainwater harvesting in the eastern part of the municipality, by a dam, the eddies in the Rambla del Murciano and, through a complex system of jacks , leads to the raft of the Commonwealth of Puerto Lumbreras Irrigation.
The investment in this segment amounted to another 400,000 euros, so that the total investment of the channels for rainwater has reached the 800,000 euros.
An example of the usefulness of this construction has been observed in practice and with the rains of September and the first day of operation of the pipeline were precipitation and managed to collect 5,000 cubic meters that have joined the reserves irrigators.
The CHS continues the program of actions to ensure, first, the proper functioning of drainage channels in the case of avenues and, secondly, to provide all possible resources to farmers in the basin.
Well for irrigation
In addition, the CHS has also funded and implemented a survey on the right side of the avenue de Béjar, Puerto Lumbreras, for the Community of Irrigators of this municipality, which represents more than 1,000 farmers.
Of water from the well, whose depth reaches 400 meters, are also benefiting other companies dedicated to growing and maintaining flowers directly and indirectly several hundred jobs in the area.
The survey is able to pump about 200,000 cubic meters per year.
Also, the basin organization authorized the integration into a single grant of six wells of the Commonwealth of Puerto Lumbreras Irrigation and Agricultural Processing Societies (SAT) Boquera Honda and Puerto Adentro.
Thus, it has achieved a breakthrough in the management of groundwater resources of the municipality to unify the management of the utilization of all agricultural and livestock institutions in Puerto Lumbreras.
