In the afternoon yesterday, more than 200 lumbrerenses honored posthumously to Master Joseph Tunisia at the Cultural Center of the municipality.
The event included a poetry reading given by Marcos Salvador Romero, a performance by the chamber orchestra of students from Marcos Romero, and performance of the Chorus and Dance Group Virgen del Rosario.
Tunisia José Romero died on April 27, 2007 after devoting most of his life to his professional work led by the Parador de Javea (Valencia), Valle de Aran (Lérida), and finally to the Parador Nacional de Puerto Lumbreras.
Senior Councillor, Gloria Matilde Garcia, together with the Councillor for Education and Culture, Isabel Garcia, attended the tribute in which he was also present the widow and family of Joseph Tunisia.
During the tribute, Senior Councillor, Gloria Matilde García Caballero stressed "the good work of José Tunisia in the town of Puerto Lumbreras, and that through its activity, transmitted to generations of lumbrerenses his passion for traditional music."
Born in Puerto Lumbreras on February 7, 1932, music was his passion and the law of life through such instruments as the guitar or lute.
At the age of 15 he began playing with friends and siblings, in Havana on local street musicians, playing all kinds of traditional and popular music of the Shire of Guadalentín as, Sprees, Jacks, Malagueñas, Easter, or Christmas carols.
As a member for many years, the Gang of Puerto Lumbreras, and has participated in countless festivals and music events, recorded an album titled "The Gang of Puerto Lumbreras", leaving to posterity a legacy of our music and folklore.
In addition, José Tunisia created a rondalla he made various performances in the town, where he taught many lumbrerenses.
