The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras is added to the proposition of law on sustainable Segura TST (30/01/2010)

The full City Council approved the motion presented by the Partido Popular de Puerto Lumbreras to which the municipality supports the proposition of law adopted by the Regional Assembly of Murcia for the Sustainable Use of the Tajo-Segura

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has joined the proposition Sustainable Use Act Tajo-Segura Aqueduct approved by the Regional Assembly.

The session lumbrerense approved at the last plenary the motion proposed by the Municipal People's Party to support the proposition of law, and urge the Government of Spain to take responsibility and develop the National Hydrological Plan of 2001.

The regional assembly adopted on 18 January, the proposition of law dedicated to upholding the Tajo-Segura without the restrictions of the Statute of Castilla-La Mancha, for the Government of Spain to attend the Congress of Deputies.

According to the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, "with the approval of this motion, the council urges lumbrerense once again, the Government of Spain for urgent processing and approval of a proposal for the Sustainable Use Act Tajo-Segura Aqueduct proposal by Regional Assembly.

The uncertainty experienced by our farmers and water users is increasing, and therefore it becomes more than ever necessary the collaboration of government and institutions for the Government of Spain to respond with urgency to this proposition of law. "

The absence of a national water policy of solidarity that supports the constitutional framework, has endangered the continuity of the Tajo-Segura, a vital infrastructure for the municipalities of Murcia and the rest of southern Spanish.

Specifically, the council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the motion passed, urged the central government to introduce the Bill in the House of Representatives for urgent processing and approval.

On the other hand, the session lumbrerense requests the Government's Office to take responsibility and develop the National Hydrological Plan of 2001, as it was conceived to solve the structural water deficit experienced by the Segura Basin.

In this sense, the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, recalled that "the national water policy is the prerogative of the State.

Currently, the structural water deficit experienced by the Segura basin not only has resulted, but has aggravated the derogation of the Ebro referred to in the National Hydrological Plan. "
