Puerto Lumbreras City Council has approved in the last plenary session a motion requesting the State cross-cutting policies and concrete measures to boost the tourism sector.
Specifically, the session sought to apply the reduced VAT rate to 4% in tourism services, and to rectify the tax increase reduced to 20% tax rate on corporate income tax for SMEs.
"The Spanish tourism industry, one of the main productive sectors of the national economy, and is currently going through one of the worst moments due to the current economic situation.
Since the session lumbrerense propose a motion which includes specific measures to promote the tourism sector, and thus employers and workers in this area, "said the Councillor for Tourism, Ginés David Piñero.
On the other hand, with the approval of the motion presented by the Popular Party, the session aims to promote job creation and competitiveness of the Spanish production system, reducing the price of two business points to social security, as well as foster an environment containment of costs that directly affect the tourism industry.
Total expenditure of foreign tourists decreased by 6.7% in 2009 over the previous year, to 48.242 million euros, according to the Tourism Expenditure Survey (EGATUR) prepared by the Institute for Tourism Studies of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade.
In addition, in 2009 tourist arrivals fell by 8.7% in 2009 compared with 2008 (according to the Inbound Tourism Survey Frontera - Frontur-), with a loss of more than 5 million foreign tourists.
Thus, the session lumbrerense proposes concrete measures in different areas of the tourism sector.
Among the measures, emphasis needs ports and airports on all ports and airports of the state, and adopt a Strategic Plan for Connectivity Air aeras ensuring communication within Spanish territory, and tourist-sending countries.
In addition, other measures is to improve the performance of the Consulates of Spain in potential tourist source countries such as China, Russia and India to expedite the processing of tourist visas, and advance the agenda of European tourism.
Finally, the session intends to update lumbrerense urgently Tourism Plan 2020 and to promote coordination of the international promotion of Spanish tourism products to increase consumer confidence abroad.
"It is imperative that the central government to act and implement measures that contribute to tourism growth, and it is therefore necessary to involve governments and companies involved in the travel industry to set objectives and strategies," concluded the Councillor for Tourism, David Ginés Piñero.
